Abstract
In order to study haemoglobin polymorphism in one-humped camels (Camelus dr omedarius), blood samples were collected from 53 such camels (35 males and 18 females). The camels were further divided into two groups: <5 years (25) and >5 years (28). Haemoglobin electrophoresis was carried out on lysates. Two types of haemoglobin, A1 and A2, were fractionated and the levels of e ach type were determined for both sex and age groups. Haematocrit (%), tota l haemoglobin (g/L) and haemoglobin A1 (g/L) showed significant differences between the sexes (p<0.05). No significant differences were seen between a ge groups for any of the parameters measured. Correlation coefficients betw een measured parameters were also determined.
