COMPUTER METHODS IN APPLIED MECHANICS AND ENGINEERING
The paper presents the development and investigation of a blending-function
-based overlapping-grid technique for compressible Euler flows. In this tec
hnique, local solutions, obtained on overlapping subdomains, are combined i
nto a lobal function using blending functions as weights. This global funct
ion is subsequently used to impose new boundary conditions on interfaces. T
he local solutions are obtained using the Riemann solver and an implicit-un
factored method, for spatial and temporal discretization, respectively. Sev
eral numerical experiments are carried out for flows around circular-are an
d two-element airfoils, and demonstrate that the blending function approach
improves the numerical convergence for grid configurations containing mult
iple overlaps. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
