Abstract
A very simple and general expression of the consistent tangent matrix for s ubstepping time-integration schemes is presented. If needed, the derivative s required for the computation of the consistent tangent moduli can be obta ined via numerical differentiation. These two strategies (substepping and n umerical differentiation) lead to quadratic convergence in complex nonlinea r inelasticity problems, (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved .
