Excited states of the nuclei Te-122, Te-126 and Te-130 were populated
via the (gamma, gamma') reaction at endpoint energies of the bremsstra
hlung between 4.5 and 5.5 MeV. Gamma rays were detected with a EUROBAL
L-CLUSTER detector and a single detector. In all nuclei several dipole
transitions were identified at energies around 3 MeV. The lowest corr
esponding J = 1 states are interpreted as two-phonon excitations. Quas
iparticle-phonon-model calculations predict one 1(-) state arising fro
m the coupling of the first quadrupole and the first octupole phonon a
nd one 1(+) state arising from the coupling of the first: and the isov
ector second quadrupole phonon at about 3 MeV. The calculated transiti
on strengths are compatible with experimental ones.
