Abstract
We present a high-level overview of the current state of the network archit ectures, protocols, and technologies that will serve as the seed for the op tical internet. We further propose that a two-way ripple effect of technolo gies penetrating from the edge to the core and vice versa, and the associat ed transformations that result, represent the keys to unlock the full poten tial of an optical Internet.
