Abstract
This study was conducted to examine the influence of three different s kills, phonological decoding, orthographic knowledge, and IQ, on the s pelling ability of 31 adults. A path analysis model was computed to de scribe the relations among these variables. Phonological decoding prov ed to have the largest influence on spelling ability, whereas orthogra phic knowledge was of minor influence. The path coefficients for the i nfluence of IQ on spelling and on phonological decoding were nearly in significant. The study supports the importance of phonological decodin g for adults' spelling ability.
