Abstract
Image processing has proved highly successful for automatic, objective qual ity monitoring in industry. In cases where the continuous control of extrud ed film is specified, enormous volumes of data are generated. A system base d on standard computer components has therefore been developed in order to cope with this vast quantity of data. Apart from defect detection, it offer s facilities for error classification, error assessment and defect descript ion. This mechanism also guarantees the stability of the testing system whe n exposed to troublesome influences from the production environment, such a s dust.
