BACKGROUND: Deep vein thrombosis is a rare complication of myoma uteri. The
re have been few reports on this association.
CASE: A 42-year-old woman presented with a myoma uteri, 24 weeks in size, t
hat had compressed the pelvic veins and caused unilateral deep vein thrombo
sis of the left leg. After anticoagulation therapy a total abdominal hyster
ectomy was performed, with an uneventful recovery.
CONCLUSION: Although deep vein thrombosis associated with myoma uteri is a
rare event, it cart be managed successfully with anticoagulants and hystere
ctomy. Myoma uteri with deep vein thrombosis is an indication for hysterect
omy.
