This paper explores the utility of a discrete singular convolution algorith
m for vibration analysis. A number of different realizations of singular co
nvolution kernels are selected to illustrate the present algorithm. Vibrati
on analysis of strings, rods, beams, diatomic molecules, membranes, wavegui
des and thin plates are utilized to test numerical accuracy and speed of co
nvergence of the present approach. Numerical experiments indicate that the
discrete singular convolution is a simple and reliable algorithm for vibrat
ion analysis. (C) 2001 Academic Press.
