The ratio DeltaC(v)/T-c for the specific heat jump (DeltaC(v)) at the super
conducting transition temperature (T-c) has been calculated for the correla
ted electron systems within the van Hove scenario for the normal state elec
tronic density of stales. The effect of electron correlations has been take
n into account using Gutzwiller variational method. It is found that the in
terplay between electron-electron interaction and electron-phonon interacti
on plays an important role in enhancing the ratio DeltaC(v)/T-c. Our findin
gs should be relevant to a number of superconducting compounds of recent in
terest.
