Bifurcation control deals with the modification of the bifurcation characte
ristics of a parameterized nonlinear system by a judiciously designed contr
ol input. In this paper, we consider the problem of dynamic feedback contro
l of bifurcations. In particular, previous results on the control of bifurc
ations using washout filters are extended to some general forms of dynamic
feedback controllers. Ht is shown that any stable rational high-pass filter
can be transformed into an extension of washout filter to construct a spec
ial form of dynamic feedback controller, The control effect on bifurcations
can be readily assessed by analytical formulae, These dynamic feedback con
trollers offer more flexibility over the original controller in bifurcation
control. The results are viable for the design and analysis of nonlinear c
ontrol systems involving bifurcations.
