Reaction of 1-methyl-2-methylsulfonylimidazole (MeImSO(2)Me) with diorganot
in dihalides yielded compounds of the type [SnR2X2(MeImSO(2)Me)] (R = Me, X
= Cl, Br; R = Et, X = Cl; R = Ph, X = Cl). The structures of the dimethyld
ibromo and diphenyldichloro derivatives were determined by X-ray crystallog
raphy. The tin atom is best described as being 5+1 coordinated by two C ato
ms, two X atoms, the unsubstituted N atom of MeImSO(2)Me and very weakly to
one of the O atom of the sulfonyl group. NMR spectroscopy studies of the c
ompounds in CDCl3 solution revealed extensive dissociation.
