Abstract
A New series of 3-benzyl-4-oxo-6-iodo-3H-quinazoline derivatives was synthe sized and evaluated for their anticonvulsant activity adopting various scre ening models. Compound 2c (ED50 73.1 mg/kg) showed a 100% protection agains t PTZ-induced clonic convulsions with a wide safety margin compared to valp roate (ED50 102 mg/kg). Also, compounds 4a, 6a, 9b and 10a showed 83.3% pro tection. Meanwhile, compounds 2c, 4a and 10a proved to be GABA-mimetic agen ts.
