Ak. Chu et al., Optical polarizer based on anti-resonant reflecting optical waveguide under quasi-anti-resonant conditions, OPT COMMUN, 194(1-3), 2001, pp. 137-142
A novel optical polarizer based on anti-resonant reflecting optical wavegui
de (ARROW) structure at quasi-antiresonant conditions is proposed. The grea
t advantage over conventional ARROW devices is the fact that large polariza
tion isolation of the proposed polarizer can be obtained even with a thick
guiding core. This is accomplished by tuning the ARROW from the anti-resona
nt conditions toward the high-order anti-resonances of the second cladding
layer. For the SiO2/Si/SiO2 ARROW polarizer with 8 mum thick core, polariza
tion isolation ranged from 40 to 57 dB/cm can be achieved if the index detu
ning between -3.7% and -4.2% of the core with respect to the second claddin
g is assumed. The isolations between the TEo mode and the high-order TE mod
es in the transverse direction of the ARROW polarizer were also discussed.
