This study begins the inductive process of identifying the supervisory know
ledge and skills that are necessary for effective field based clinical supe
rvision of rehabilitation counselors. A total of 774 randomly selected cert
ified rehabilitation counselors (CRCs) completed the Rehabilitation Counsel
ing Supervision inventory, an instrument developed via a Delphi method spec
ifically fur this investigation. principal components analysis of their res
ponses yielded 6 supervisory knowledge and skill domains essential for effe
ctive field-based supervision of rehabilitation counselors. The results of
this study empirically demonstrate that there is a substantial body of supe
rvisory knowledge and skills that CRCs perceived to be important for effect
