An epidemiological investigation carried out on 10 mammal species and 32 po
ultry species in the Western Romania, revealed the incidence of cryptospori
diosis in bovine, swine and chickens. This was de first time that cryptospo
ridiosis was noticed in swine throughout Romania. In calves, the incidence
varied between 36.8 % and 61.7 %. The infection was significantly higher (p
< 0,002) in Baltata cu Negru Romaneasca (dairy cow) compared with Baltata
Romaneasca (mixed breed). Responsiveness increased in 8-14 day-old calves.
No differences between the prevalence in the sexes were observed. In 5 broi
lers the rate of the cryptosporidiosis varied between 0 % and 25;2 %. The h
ighest incidence was noticed in 22-28 day-old chickens.
