Application of MgO-C bricks for the RH degasser lower vessel

At Mizushima works of Kawasaki Steel, application trials of magnesia-carbon (MgO-C) bricks to the RH degasser lower vessels were carried out in order to increase campaign life and reuse old bricks to a greater extend. It was confirmed that the vessel life was approximately 15 % longer than with conv entional magnesia-chromite brick lining. Furthermore, the MgO-C lining had no negative influence such as C pick-up during ultra-low carbon steel produ ction.
