Although sequencing of the human genome has been taking place in rapidly ac
celerating fashion for yea rs, the presentation of the entire sequence (to
a first approximation, anyway) has now permitted a global view of its struc
ture. The completion of the sequence has therefore invited all manner of ae
sthetic, philosophical, societal - as well as biological - discussions of i
ts implications. This global view of the genome will undoubtedly forever ch
ange the face of biology. But how? Here are a few perspectives from the poi
nt of view of neuroscience.
