Abstract
Food-associated diarrheal disease is a major problem in the United States. One approach offered as virtually a panacea is food irradiation. Irradiatin g our food would have some unequivocal benefits, but there are some importa nt unresolved issues that must be addressed before we commit our society to a technology that could be harmful.
