Abstract
Slovene companies need to become more global in an environment of growing r egionalization. The following analysis of Slovene exporters' operations inv estigates those elements and prerequisites of international operations esse ntial for the expansion of a company's export activities. Larger companies with significant experience and a strong management orientation toward expo rting, more easily overcome the barriers to exporting. In comparison with Western rivals, large Slovene companies are characterize d as small with limited operational resources. Thus, they seek to maximize international export revenues through economies of scale and minimization o f risk. Their international exports consist of more standardized goods, pri marily nondurables. They export mainly to West European countries, which ar e economically and politically stable and have highly developed markets. A small domestic market, limited internal resources, technologies that rapidl y become obsolete, and intense international competition keep Slovene expor ters on this strategic path.
