Abstract
A new mode converter based on tapered hollow optical fibre is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Two segments of a singlemode fibre and a taper ed hollow ring-core fibre were concatenated serially to convert a fundament al mode to a ring-shaped mode. The fabrication, far field pattern and inser tion loss of the proposed mode converter were measured and discussed.
