A. Salamon et al., OCCURRENCE OF MYOFIBROBLASTS IN RECURRENT DUPUYTRENS DISEASE - AN ELECTRON-MICROSCOPIC STUDY, Journal of hand surgery. British volume, 22B(4), 1997, pp. 518-520
Surgically removed nodules from ten patients with recurrent Dupuytren'
s disease were studied by electron microscopy. Myofibroblasts were fou
nd in eight cases in the active (involutional) stage. The distinctive
ultrastructural features were similar to those of the original Dupuytr
en's disease. We believe that, in addition to other factors, myofibrob
lasts have a non-specific but important role in the pathology of recur
rent Dupuytren's disease.
