We present photoelectron angular distributions (PAD) in two-photon double i
onization of helium for photon energies in the range of 45 eV, where the di
rect double ejection is unequivocally distinguishable from the sequential.
Through an approach that allows us to explore the role of correlation, we o
btain conditions under which the two electrons ave the tendency to be emitt
ed in the same direction. Relevant experiments should be feasible either us
ing high-order harmonic generation or the upcoming short-wavelength free el
ectron laser sources.
