Kg. Ivanov, Loading dynamics of low-latitude coronal holes, solar filaments, and near-earth disturbances in July-December 1999, GEOMAG AERO, 41(3), 2001, pp. 279-287
We consider the recurrent complex of interacting solar sources of near-Eart
h disturbances that dominated in solar-terrestrial relationships in July-De
cember 1999. We show the following: (i) one of the main effects of the inte
raction in the complex was the "loading" of coronal holes with active-filam
ent matter; and (ii) variations in the degree of loading essentially determ
ine the density and velocity profiles of interplanetary plasma streams at t
he Earth's orbit and the duration of recurrent geomagnetic disturbances.
