H. Maluf et F. Koerner, Lobular carcinoma in situ and infiltrating ductal carcinoma: Frequent presence of DCIS as a precursor lesion, INT J SUR P, 9(2), 2001, pp. 127-131
Infiltrating ductal carcinoma (IDC) occurs frequently in patients with lobu
lar carcinoma in-situ (LCIS). LCIS is not thought to be the direct precurso
r of the invasive component. The authors analyzed 15 cases of coexisting LC
IS and IDC and found ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) in 12. The DCIS and ID
C were of similar grade and located in the same area. Selected cases staine
d with E-cadherin demonstrated a different immunophenotype for the lobular
and ductal lesions. These results support the notion that DCIS is the direc
t precursor of IDC occurring in patients with LCIS.
