A. Pingsmann et Rt. Muller, QUALITY OF PROCEDURE AND OUTCOME IN SURGE RY OF GIANT-CELL BONE-TUMORS AND THEIR DEPENDENCE ON SURGICAL-MANAGEMENT, Der Unfallchirurg, 100(7), 1997, pp. 547-551
Giant-cell bone tumors display a locally aggressive growth pattern, fr
equently recur if no adjuvant treatment, is given, and may potentially
metastarize. By virtue of their biological behavior and typically jux
ta-articular localization, giant-cell bone tumors require specific sur
gical management. Thus, an intralesional tumor excision must be supple
mented by adjuvant bone cementing, possibly combined with instillation
of phenol or cryotherapy. These combined treatment modalities assure
a high-quality procedure, defined as the actual way medical care is de
livered, by promoting the quality of the outcome, defined as the effec
t of a medical procedure on the patient's state of health.
