Ionic conductivities of salts of alkali metal ions, ammonium ion and zinc i
on in agarose (4%, w/w) and modified agarose have been determined using a s
pecially designed conductivity cell. The ion conductivity values of these s
alts in gel media are close to their aqueous conductance. Hydration behavio
rs are also similar to their aqueous hydration as reflected in their activa
tion energy of transport. Ni-plating in gel electrolytes seems to be promis
ing for certain applications.
