We have prepared carbon anode materials by pyrolysis of rice husk (RH). Thr
ough X-ray powder diffraction, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) measurement, an
d ICP-AES analysis, the effects of acid-base pre-treatment, pyrolysis tempe
rature, and the use of a proprietary poregenic agent on the cell capacity o
f these materials were investigated. The carbonaceous materials made from R
H treated with a proprietary agent showed an extraordinarily high reversibl
e capacity of 1055 mAh/g. To our best knowledge, this new hard carbon mater
ial possesses the highest reversible capacity ever reported for any carbon
anode materials of lithium-ion batteries. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Al
