Possible causes of cystic ventral cervical masses in cats include thyroid,
thyroglossal duct, and parathyroid cysts; however, the possibility that suc
h masses represent cystic thyroid adenomas or cystic thyroid carcinomas sho
uld also be considered.
Magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear scintigraphy, and measurement of parath
yroid hormone concentrations in fluid from ventral cervical cysts may help
in differentiating thyroid, thyroglossal, and parathyroid cysts.
