Abstract
Undoped, donor doped and acceptor doped barium stannate systems viz Ba1-xLa xSnO3 and BaSn1-xCrxO3 were prepared by a soil state ceramic method. The ef fect of these dopants on densification. crystal structure and microstructur e structure have been studied. The limit of solid solution formation in lan thanum, nickel and chromium doped barium stannate is up to x less than or e qual to 0.10. Crystal structure of all the samples in various doped systems remains cubic similar too undoped BaSnO3. Nickel doping seems to promote d ensification whereas lanthanum and chromium seems to inhibit it. For low va lues of x, average grain size of the samples in the doped systems is simila r to that in barium stannate while for higher x it becomes smaller than 1 m um (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V.
