Textured strontium ferrite thin films has been grown at room temperature us
ing a Nd:YAG laser. The spectroscopic study of the produced plasma revealed
that the expansion velocities of the species are of the order of 10(6) cm/
s, which could explain the obtained texture. The stoichiometric analysis sh
ows a small oxygen reduction in the films due to the absence of a gas backg
round during the growing process. The influence of the target quality on th
e droplet presence at the thin films has been investigated. (C) 2001 Elsevi
