Abstract
Vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential for proper growth and development of cell s and tissues. As a ligand for retinoic acid receptors (RAR, RXR) different iation of cells and integrity of tissues is controlled. Respiratory tract, Vitamin A is of special importance for the respiratory e pithelium and the lung. During moderate vitamin A-deficiency the incidence of respiratory tract infections increases and, vice versa, moderate vitamin A supplementation has a beneficial effect on respiratory tract infections.
