Abstract
It is demonstrated that the stability of low n pressure gradient driven mod es in stellarators is improved by local flattening of the pressure at low o rder rational surfaces. Here n is the toroidal mode number. Results are pre sented for the Large Helical Device with an inward magnetic axis shift of 2 5 cm.
