Neutral beam injection in the START spherical tokamak induces L to H mode t
ransitions in double null divertor configurations. The behaviour of the edg
e poloidal velocity, electron temperature and density, and edge neutral den
sity during the transition are examined. The region encompassing the therma
l barrier is investigated with a variety of diagnostics including Doppler s
pectrometry, Thomson scattering, a Balmer D-alpha camera and magnetics.
