Abstract
The 3UDH Pelletron tandem accelerator in Lund is being developed to be more suitable for accelerator mass spectrometry of heavy ions. This development includes the installation of an electrostatic and a magnetic analyzer in a new injector aimed to obtain better mass and energy separation. In the pre sent paper some applications of the first-order analytical calculation tech nique, used at the design stage of the new injector, are discussed. The est imation of the maximum possible opening of the analyzer slits was carried o ut, followed by the calculation of the analyzer acceptances. The values of the acceptances for the two transversal planes, as well as their contours a re given. Some results of more detailed numerical calculation of the ion be am transport through the analyzers are reported. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
