A rare case of obstructive hydrocephalus due to aqueductal obstruction foll
owing neonatal herpes simplex virus type 1 encephalitis is presented. The c
hild was treated by third ventriculostomy and vesicles were seen on the flo
or of the third ventricle, The stoma closed on two occasions and required r
epeat third ventriculostomy, which was successful in maintaining the child
