A novel triplet radical 4-N-tert-butylaminoxyl-4'-(1-oxyl-3-oxide-4,4,5,5-t
etramethylimidazolin-2-yl)biphenyl (BIPNNNO) and a metal-radical complex of
Mn(II) made up of Mn(hfac)(2) and BIPNNNO were synthesized. The X-ray sing
le crystal structural analysis revealed that the complex consists of discre
te molecules [Mn(hfac)(2)]. BIPNNNO)(2). Temperature dependence of magnetic
susceptibility was analyzed and revealed that antiferromagnetic interactio
n is operative between Mn(II) and diradical BIPNNNO to afford S=1/2, ground
state. The exchange parameters are compared with those of complexes of Mn(
