Abstract
A highly efficient synthesis of (2R,3S,5S)-2-acetoxy-3-fluoro-5-(p-toluoylo xymethyl)tetrahydrofuran (2a) was developed. As a key intermediate, 2a was effectively applied to the synthesis of 9-(2,3-dideoxy-2-fluoro-beta -D-thr eo-pentofuranosyl)adenine (FddA), thus, providing a practical synthesis app roach to FddA.
