This article describes literature from several domains in organization
al psychology and vocational behavior in an attempt to advance theory
building and research in the area of mentoring in organizations. Relev
ant research from leader-member exchange theory, organizational citize
nship behavior, social support, and socialization is reviewed in order
to understand the theoretical nomological network of mentoring. Propo
sitions for future research on the topic of mentoring are provided. (C
