Mm. Sidahmed et Rb. Brown, Simulation of spray dispersal and deposition from a forestry airblast sprayer - Part I: Air jet model, T ASAE, 44(1), 2001, pp. 5-10
A computational fluid dynamics code (FLUENT (TM)) was evaluated for use in
modeling the airflow field from round jets, which are characteristic of for
estry airblast sprayers. The simulation was compared to turbulent jet theor
y and validated with data collected from a small centrifugal fan and a comm
ercial forestry airblast sprayer Both two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimens
ional (30) schemes were employed The measured axial and transverse velocity
profiles agreed well with the 3D free jet models from FLUENT and turbulent
jet theory However FLUENT was superior to turbulent jet theory in predicti
ng asymmetric velocity profiles. The 20 approximations of a round jet using
FLUENT and turbulent jet theory were not satisfactory
