Using the diffusion couple and electron probe microanalysis techniques, the
phase boundaries of the solid phase of the Ni-Hf system have been determin
ed at 1123 and 1173 K. The intermediate compound NiHf2 is found to have a l
imited range of homogeneity. The Ni-Hf system is reassessed by means of the
CALPHAD technique. A set of parameters consistent with most of the experim
ental data on both phase diagram and thermodynamic properties is obtained.
The crystallization temperature T-x and the glass forming range have been p
redicted based on the obtained thermodynamic description, and the result is
consistent with available experimental information.
