Abstract
Polymorphic genetic markers are important tools in the construction of comp rehensive genetic maps. This paper reports on the isolation and characteriz ation of 90 new bovine microsatellite (ms) loci from enriched genomic libra ries. The sequence of one clone (locus MNB-85) showed significant similarit y to an intron of the human promyelocytic leukemia zinc finger protein (PLZ F) gene. Screening of bovine and porcine somatic cell panels places the bov ine PLZF homolog on BTA-15 and the porcine PLZF homolog on SSC-9. The 90 ne w microsatellite loci increase the number of microsatellites available for cattle by >5%.
