In this paper a series acceleration technique is presented which can d
rastically improve the convergence rate of a series, The method is bas
ed upon the Kummer transformation, This is one of the many acceleratio
n techniques to reduce the computational labor associated with the eva
luation of a series, In numerical electromagnetic problems these serie
s often are the Green's functions which are evaluated a huge number of
times, The evaluation time of these series thus becomes an important
parameter when investigating the overall performance of the implemente
d method. As an example, the technique will be applied to the two-dime
nsional free-space Green's function of a medium periodic in one dimens
ion.
