A serendipitous sky field in Vulpecula was observed with Johnson BVR photom
etry and slitless spectroscopy in the 5600-8000 Angstrom range, looking for
emission line and late spectral type stars. We discovered that the B2V sta
r LS II +32 degrees 9, most probably a member of the Vul OB4 association, i
s now an H alpha emitter. Furthermore, we identified the optical counterpar
t of the IRAS source IRAS 19564+3224 as a C star. Photometric study of the
surrounding stellar field revealed that this object lies inside the sky are
a of a previously undetected open cluster of intermediate age. We discuss t
he possible cluster membership of the Carbon star and its implications. Som
e hints about the galactic structure along the line of sight of the observe
d field are also given.
