Abstract
The synthesis, photophysical properties of diphenyl-2,3-dihydroxychlorin (D PCOH) and its photocytotoxicity to tumor cells are described. DPCOH exhibit s photodynamic activity in terms of type I and type II mechanisms under irr adiation. The quantum yield of O-1(2) in CHCl3 is 0.7. For the photocytotox icity to tumor cells, DPCOH proved to be 200 times more potent than HPD, an d the dark toxicity is low (dark IC90 > 32 mug/mL). (C) 2001 Elsevier Scien ce Ltd.
