The first steps of the interaction of the temperate pilus-dependent ph
age OO4 with susceptible and empty set 04-lysogenic cells of Pseudomon
as aeruginosa were investigated. The empty set 04-lysogenic cells reta
ined their ability to adsorb viral particles on the pili. However, aft
er the translocation to the cell surface, the bacteriophage failed to
infect the immune microorganism. It is assumed that the surface of emp
ty set 04-immune cells was modified due to lysogenic conversion, and t
his modification prevented the terminal tail fibers of viral particles
from interacting with the outer membrane of P. aeruginosa cells.
