Databases of human hemoglobin variants and other resources at the globin gene server

Building on the pioneering efforts of Professor Huisman, several different databases of hemoglobin variants have been developed, each with progressive ly increased capacity for sophisticated queries and prompt updating. These resources are reviewed ill the context of a larger plan for providing relat ed resources on hemoglobins, benign and pathological variation in these pro teins and the genes that encode them, and the regulation of the globin gene s.
