Abstract
The optimisation of the transmission radar pulse shape to maximise either t arget detection or identity discrimination between the T-72 and M1 main bat tle tanks is investigated. Significant performance improvements in target d etection and identification are obtained using such matched illumination tr ansmission waveforms over that of standard chirped pulses.
