The (phenylthio)acetates of lanthanum(III), praseodymium(III), neodymium(II
I), samarium(III), gadolinium(III), terbium(III) and dysprosium(III) have b
een synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic, mag
netic and thermal data. The IR data show that the carboxylato group is bond
ed to the metal ion in a bidentate chelate mode. A coordination number of s
even is suggested for the rare earth metal ions in these complexes. Through
-space interaction of sulphur has been suggested for the low M-L covalency
in these complexes.
