Abstract
High-resolution synchrotron X-ray and neutron powder diffraction of Bi1-xCa xMnO3 (x greater than or equal to 0.75) has shown that these systems presen t a phase segregation coinciding with the electronic localization of the e( g) electrons. The very precise results obtained provide evidence of a mecha nism for phase segregation based on subtle compositional heterogeneity effe cts. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
